Individual protection
Personal fall protection systems for individual fall protection while on flat roofs
Individual protection involves securing a single person using personal fall protection equipment (PPE). This consists of a safety harness, a lanyard with energy absorber and an anchorage device.
When is individual protection used?
The operator or the health and safety coordinator (SiGeKo) decides whether individual protection is sufficient on the basis of a risk analysis/hazard assessment. If this shows that individual protection is sufficient for the planned work, the rule applies:
- Line-guided systems have priority over single anchor points!
One example of this is our Optisafe OSL load-bearing cable system, which offers greater safety and improved user-friendliness. - The use of individual protection in combination with photovoltaics poses particular risks:
- The lanyard of the PPEgA can be passed over the solar modules and damage them.
- At the same time, there is a risk of the lanyard itself being damaged by the sharp edges of the PV modules. In the event of a fall, this could result in the PPE no longer functioning reliably.
- BG recommendation for use as a restraint system:
To use individual protection as a pure restraint system, the anchorage device should be at least 2.5 m away from the edge of the fall. This leads to a loss of space for your PV system.
We will be happy to advise you on choosing the right fall protection system for your green roof or gravel roof. Please get in touch with our application technology team.
